Blurb on this after 'the bathers"

I chose Cezanne to indulge in a bit of art history, Ive never been there before on a voluntary basis, so this is an opportunity for me to dig the details and learn.

The Bathers, oil on canvas 1906 - 208 x 251 cm

This is the largest canvas of the Bathers Series" , it was created during Cezanne's "final period" - of life (there were four periods) This is Avante Garde 20 century, i like this work because it includes loads of naked women as the focal point and he has included them as a part of the landscape and trees but they retain their body language to express. Cezanne painted quite large heavy figures in his landscapes.

Sugar Bowl,Pears and Blue Cup (stilllife)

This still life was created during Cezanne's dark period 1861 - 1870 during which time he was rude,angry,shy and thus reflected in his use of dark colour palette. I like the texturising and chromatic colours though , it looks like it was done quickly, experimenting?

Self portrait

this is expressive and not finished. He looked grumpy because he recieved a lot of sarcasm and horrible comments after his 3rd impressionist exhibition. So, his self confidence and disappointment drove him to relocate.... to be continued in the essay... ! :o)
